The Ocoee Ride March 9, 2013

We had originally planned to take a ride in the mountains on a route we call the Long Loop but a contact with a friend in Suches had us think otherwise. They had a significant snowfall earlier in the week and although the snow was gone there remained a fair amount of sand and fine gravel on the road, especially in the turns. Not wanting to repeat our pussy-footing of last month through a sandy Wolf Pen Gap and Richard Russell Parkway we decided to stay in lower elevations and take a look at the Ocoee River over in Tennessee.

Five of us, Dan, Robert L., Bob K., Steve and Bob S. made the trip up through Dial, Morganton, and Copperhill to the Ocoee where we had lunch at the Ocoee Dam Diner.

Our trip back to Georgia was on US 411 through Chatsworth, Ranger et al to a turn off on Salacoa Road south of Fairmont. This, then Pleasant Arbor and Hornage Roads took us back to the exit 27 start point by 4 p.m.

Start to finish was just over 200 miles, not counting rides home to individual abodes.

It was a pleasant ride with good friends. The video tells the story:
