So What Did You Do On June 5th?

Six of us (Tad, Frank, Steve, Larry and the Sullivans)took off after the morning meeting to have one of Silvia's burgers at Sugar Pike Junction. As soon as we got our tires on to East Cherokee Road we were joined by our usual companion, rain. This time it was short lived, and all but stopped by the time we got to the top of Sugar Pike. The rest of the day was as good as Georgia summer days get.

At the morning meeting, after Dan's update on features we could add to the web-site, we talked about braking and cornering. While emergency braking was practiced right after the meeting in the lower parking lot, we had all afternoon to try "outside-inside-outside" cornering on our after lunch ride. After put-putting through Ball Ground, we took boondock one-laners in search of a way across Sharp Top Creek, as the bridge on Howell Bridge Road is still closed. The crossing we found was a one lane bridge, the first of three for the day.

Once back on wider pavement we made our way through Pleasant Arbor to Salacoa and Jerusalem, for a stop in Talking Rock, at a small town park (with restrooms), next to the creek. From Talking Rock we made our way up Sassafras Mountain on 136, which  then brought us over to where Afton used to be. All the guys were up to trying some gravel roads, even Frank on his Harley, so we got off Afton Road and headed south on Amicalola Church Road. Soon after it turned to pavement we took a left on Steel Bridge Road headed for more gravel in Dawson Forest. No one had a problem, not even riding the plank over Amicalola Creek.

After a rest stop at our favorite Chevron (Tate/53)we headed down Four Mile Church Road etc., then home. A great ride; about 125 miles of good company, varied scenery and interesting road types.
