Into The Mist On May First

Eight of us, Jim, Steve,Larry, Bob K., Tad, Frank, Greg and I, took off into the mist, destination the north Georgia mountains.

The mist turned to drizzle by the time we made it to Dawsonville, where we stopped to put on whatever rain gear we had with us. The drizzle followed us to our lunch stop at the Wagon Wheel in Dahlonega, and while we were eating and discussing the problems of the world, it turned to a light rain. A look outside showed no break in the clouds, but rather a few ominous looking dark clouds. What to do? Our planned route would take us up to Suches via Ga 60, a road famous for not only its challenging curves, but also a plethora of tar snakes, as only Lumpkin County can provide.

Let's see, challenging curves, wet roads and tar snakes, not a prescription for a relaxing ride. We put our heads together and proclaimed... Mayday! As a result we cut our ride about 50 miles short, promising ourselves to return another day. However, we  didn't high tail it south but rather rode some fine country roads over to Hall county, where the roads were dry and the sun was shining (go figure). After altering our course a bit we crossed Ga 400 going west and rapidly passed through Dawson and Fulton counties until we got our wheels back in Cherokee.

A little wet, a little shorter than we planned, but all agreed, a good time never-the-less. Now, to order up sunshine for our Cherohala ride on May 15th.
