July 2022 – A Long Summer’s Day

In late July, Dave, Larry and Brian (welcome, Brian!) took a (long) day ride to the Cherohala Skyway and the Nantahala Gorge. Since the forecast was relatively clear, but seasonably hot, they left early and enjoyed cool temps as they headed to Blue Ridge the fast way, then up the very-curvy TN 68 to Tellico Plains. As they headed up the Skyway to mile-high elevations, temps dropped to a very pleasant low-70’s!

Since Brian had a shorter daypass, he headed home while Larry and Dave continued to Robbinsville, then the Gorge to gawk at the rafters. They weren’t disappointed.

The ride home down TN 64 (Topton to Andrews to Murphy) and then 60 Spur (to Ga) was quick and comfortable - as long as they were moving! As they approached Blue Ridge, it appeared they’d ride thru the first pop-up they’d seen all day. Fortunately, they squirted around the west side of it, then had clear skies all the way home via 515.

While they made it home in time for dinner, they both decided the 330 miles for the day was just about as much as either had in them. However, it sure felt great to get back up to the beautiful mountains of Western NC. Join us next time.
