One of the better rides in the area is to Brunswicktown State Historic Site. It’s north on Hwy 133 from Southport and is a fast 2 lane with sweeping curves through pine forests. I was riding the Bonneville, AJ was on his Can-am Ryker.
On October 29th, AJ and I stopped for lunch at Koko Cabana on Oak island. The lunch spot happens to be on the Oak Island Pier, along with a nice spot for coffee. This is a great time of the year to ride. 78' and sunny. Most things are open and are not crowded as there are very few tourists here this time of year.
We rode on thru Oak Island and to the park. Fort Anderson is built on the site of Brunswicktown, on the banks of the Cape Fear River. The town is the oldest on the Cape Fear, founded in 1725 by Colonel Maurice Moore (my 7th great grandfather). In 1765, Hugh Waddell (5th great grandfather) was a leader of the Stamp Act Rebellion, which was about tariffs placed on all imported goods by the Crown. The colonists were not fans.
Also landing here were immigrants from Scotland. That’s where my ancestors on my mother's side of the family came into the Carolinas and migrated up the Cape Fear River, ending up in what is now Harnett County where I grew up.

SR 133 coming into Brunswicktown is a nice ride, and the approach road is very curvy around the ponds on the property. We finished up with AJ heading back home for work and I put iin a few more miles before going home. A total of 68 miles to have lunch.
